How it works
Zolmitriptan is a 5-HT1 receptor agonist that narrows widened blood vessels around the brain and reduces the release of pain signals, easing migraine headache and associated symptoms.
How to take
Adults: take one 2.5mg tablet at the first sign of a migraine headache. If symptoms improve and then return, a further dose may be taken after at least 2 hours. Maximum 10mg in 24 hours.
Possible side effects
- Tingling, warmth or heaviness in the body
- Dizziness or drowsiness
- Dry mouth or nausea
- Chest, throat or jaw tightness (usually short-lasting)
Important warnings
- Not suitable in heart disease, previous stroke/TIA, uncontrolled high blood pressure or peripheral vascular disease.
- Do not combine with other triptans, ergotamine or MAOI antidepressants.
- Tell your pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or take SSRIs/SNRIs.
- Limit triptan use to no more than 10 days a month to avoid medication-overuse headache.
Storage
Store below 25°C in the original packaging. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
